Canadian head coach and FIFA women’s football ambassador Carolina
Morace.
'It will be a special night this first match in Toronto,' says coach
Morace. 'We look forward to continuing to develop our team play against
a quality opponent such as Japan. It will be a great test for our young
team.'
The Canada-Japan match will kick off at 19.00 (7pm ET) this 25 May.
Tickets cost between $15-$35 each. Group rates are available in
numerous sections with the purchase of 10 or more tickets.
Coach Morace, an international star since her playing days in Italy,
took over the Canadian team this February with initial camps in Los
Angeles and Rome. She then made her Canadian debut with four matches in
the 2009 Cyprus Women’s Cup. Canada finished second in the tournament
behind England after posting two wins, one draw and one loss.
As for Japan, it will be the senior team’s first-ever visit to Canada.
Japan was recently ranked 9th on the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World
Ranking, two places ahead of Canada. In 2008, Japan finished fourth at
the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners and presenting sponsor is Teck,
has an all-time record of three wins, three draws and three losses
against Japan. At home, Canada is currently on a six-game unbeaten
streak (3-3-0).
