WLS: Can you describe the moment when you were asked to work as Chair for the Next Women's World cup? I felt very honoured by the DFB's decision to entrust this pivotal position as president of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Organising Committee to me. The great support I received from the very first minute from the president of the German FA, Dr. Theo Zwanziger, made me feel confident. Besides, we have excellent people working at the OC, which makes things easier. WLS: How are the plans coming? (More)

Colombia’s Ingrid Vidal equalised just a minute later.

taken four points from our first two games if you’d offered us that
before the tournament.'
Canada is in first place with four points after two matches (one win,
one draw, no losses). Denmark is second (1-1-0, four points) followed
by Colombia (0-2-0, two points) and New Zealand (0-0-2, no points).

With
its opening match out of the way, Canada has begun preparations for its
next opponent Colombia at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup New Zealand
2008. The two sides will meet in the afternoon of Saturday 1 November,
which back home in Canada translates to 17.00 PT or 20.00 ET on Friday
31 October. The match will be streamed live on CBCSports.ca.
Canada is currently in first place in Group A with three points. Canada
won its first match 1:0 over host New Zealand on 28 October, doing so
after opening ceremonies and in front of 13,123 fans at North Harbour
Stadium in Auckland. It was Rachel Lamarre that scored the first-ever
goal in FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup history.
'The players felt the pressure of the (first) match,' said coach Bryan
Rosenfeld. 'I am very proud of them coming out with three important
points.'
Trailing Canada with one point apiece is Colombia and Denmark, the two
sides that concluded with a 1:1 draw on 29 October. Colombia’s Tatiana
Ariza scored in the 20th minute and Denmark’s Simone Boye equalized in
the 51st minute.
The group phase for Group A runs 28 October to 4 November. Matches on 1
November are Canada vs. Colombia and New Zealand vs. Denmark. After 4
November, only the top-two teams in the group will advance to the
quarter-final stage.
In the quarter-final stage, Group A’s first-place team will play Group
B’s second-place team while Group A’s second-place team will play Group
B’s first-place team. These two matches will take place 8 November in
Wellington. Group B features Germany (three points after today), Korea
DPR (one point), Ghana (one point), and Costa Rica (no points).
Winners from the quarter-final stage advance to the 13 November
semi-final in Christchurch and winners from the semi-final stage
advance to the 16 November final in Auckland.
