Hello Everyone..
Well, the U17 Women's World Cup finnished up with a bang. Korea DPR defeating the USA 2-1 in an exciting final. The US were expected to win, but the Koreans were probably the stronger of the 2 squads on the night.
I am really surprised at the strength of the asian teams in this tournament, and now, also in the U20 tournament. Back in the day, China was the big threat coming out of Asia. Now it seems that all of the asian teams are a threat. Korea DPR were U20 Champions in 2006, and now, they have been crowned U17 Champions.
We also see Japan emerging as a force to be reckoned with. They were probably the most exciting team to watch at the U17 Championship. And now, in their first game of the U20 World Cup they seem like one of the teams to beat, dominating most of the match against Canada. (Not to forget that their Sr. team made it to the top 4 at the Beijing Olympic Games this past summer) I had a chat with Ian Bridge about this..which you will hear shortly on our video section of our website. And he was saying that Japan was putting a lot of emphasis on the Women's Game...and the results are being felt.
Another surprise seems to be England. Sitting on top of their group at the U20 Women's World Cup and made it to the final 4 at the U17 World Cup.
Who are the teams that have surprised you?
H

I have been keeping up on the latest U17 World Cup that is currently being played in New Zealand. Well, the team to beat seems to be Japan!! They beat the favorites, the USA 3-2 in the opener, thumped France 7-1 then went on to score another 7 in a 7-2 win over Paraguay. WHAT!!! Where did this team come from? They were not even considered a threat prior to the World Cup, and were considered to be the #3 team in their group. Well, not only have they proved everyone wrong, I think they have shown that they are the team to beat. In their next match they play England (November 11th). Who do you think will win? I pick Japan all the way, and I think Germany will make it through on the other side.. Give us your thoughts in our forum. We'd love to hear what you have to say!!! Helen |

Hello All..
Well, this seems to be such an exciting time for women's soccer. With all the energy surrounding the WPS, the upcoming U17 World Cup and U20 World Cup...and of course the exciting Beijing Olympics. What a great year!!!
I'm impressed with the amount of coverage that the WPS is garnering. I guess it helps when you have Steve Nash involved. What a great thing for women's soccer. It seems that people are really taking notice of the women's game. Newpapers, TV coverags, blogs...there seems to be women's soccer news anywhere I look. I really hope this time the WPS can stand strong and not fold like the WUSA. We have some exciting interviews coming up for you guys. We're going to be chatting with some of the Olympic Gold Medalists from the US team, as well as coaches/players from the US and Canadian team as they prepare for the U20 World Cup. Keep checking in on our site to see our latest interviews... What are you looking for on our site...we really do want to know...!! Send us an email:

Well, another gold for the number one ranked United States Women's Soccer Team. And watching the match today, they looked the part as well. A great game and a fantastic final between 2 very talented teams. Both sides had their share of chances to score..Marta with one amazing effort near the end of the 2nd half.
Somehow the US just seems to be able to win the big games. I think it's their winning mindset..of course as well as their talent. They just always seem to get the job done when they need to.
Hope Solo must be happy to show her part here, in the Olympic Games after the fiasco last year in the World Cup.
A great final by the 2 teams that proved they deserved to be in a final... Tell us what you think on our forums. Helen

Hello All..we are back after being hacked a couple of days ago. Interesting that someone would feel a need to hack our site...Now I know why our webmaster would tell us to 'back up' our files...
And a BIG thank you to Roman for working so hard to get us back to where we were!!
So two very interesting games today. And 2 BIG scores. Who would have thought the scores would have been so lopsided. A 4-2 win for the US over Japan and a 4-1 win by the Samba queens over the reigning World Champions. WOW!!
Brazil looks so sharp and I think they are rlooking for revenge and in a final that is a repeat of the '04 final. I think they are peaking at the right time..and with Marta and Christiane upfront...I think they will be too much for the US defence.
I have to say that with the loss of Abby Wambach, I thought the US would struggle a little more. I think they got their kinks out in the first game against Norway. They looked sharp against Canada and against Japan. I still think that the Brazilian offence may be a bit too much to handle.
What do alll of you think? Tell us on our forums..we'd love to hear from you!!!
Helen
